Before the internet, the selfie and the exaggerated, self important profile, before swiping right or swiping left, people connected on a more personal level. In smokey bars and nightclubs, discos and hot spots, connections were made with the strike of a match and some casual conversation. Numbers exchanged on a beer stained napkin or the tattered flap of a used up matchbook held the promise of something more.
In 2021 BNP invited our artists to explore the possibilities of those old-school ways through etchings as we riff on the current state of our affairs.
Matchbook is a collection of 11 artists and 22 profile pics, each based on a unique MadLib dating profile. The resulting portfolio creates a flip book of sorts that allows for a variety of quirky ‘hookups’. It’s never been easier to make a match!
